Area & Population

The Council's service area extends from Alico Road in Lee County south to Immokalee Road in Collier County and from I-75 west to the barrier islands. The student population includes some English-speaking adults who need basic literacy instruction. The main student population comes from the rapidly expanding Hispanic community in Bonita Springs and the surrounding area. According to the 2000 Census, the Hispanic population of Lee County increased by 179% in the last ten years;17% of Bonita's 34,000 residents are of Hispanic origin (Naples Daily News, March 28, 2001).
